Drug Bust Leads to Multiple Arrests

Three women are in custody following a police search of an Eau Claire home.  Police arrested Shannon Cockerham after a criminal complaint led officers to conduct surveillance outside her home.  Officers executed a search warrant of the residence and found multiple notebooks with names and dollar amounts, as well as scales and drug-related equipment.  Soleo Allen and Gabrielle Vondrasek were arrested after getting caught leaving the residence.

Holmen Homicide Suspect Appears in Court, Bond Set

Bond is being set for the suspect in a Holmen homicide.  Thirty-eight-year-old Jacob Klaver is charged with 1st degree intentional homicide in the killing last month of a man found dead inside a home on Granum Street.  Bond was set yesterday at one-million dollars.

Annual Food Drive Begins

The WESTconsin Credit Union is hosting its annual food drive.  An estimated 400 food items were collected during last year’s event along with over 27 hundred dollars in donations for local pantries.  This year’s event runs through July 19th and donations can be made at any WESTconsin branch. ROTC Programs Cut

The ROTC program at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh is getting eliminated.  Cuts by the U.S. Army are causing the removals of the program at ten universities starting in the summer next year.  ROTC programs at UW-Madison and Marquette University will not be impacted.  About 40 students participate in the program across Fox Valley.

WI Congressmen Call on Canada

Two of Wisconsin’s congressmen are calling on Canada to do more to prevent wildfire risk.  Republicans Tom Tiffany and Glenn Grothman wrote to Canada’s ambassador Kirsten Hillman with a request to raise the issue with national agencies and the forest service.  The congressmen were joined by four other legislators in their letter to Hillman.

The Northern Wisconsin State Fair is coming back this week.  Monday saw the arrival of semi trucks and trailers hauling rides and other equipment.  The fair’s executive director, Rusty Volk, says the fair is introducing a Kid’s Corner building offering face painting and carnival activities directed at kids.   The fair opens Wednesday and runs through Sunday evening.

Fatal Crash Remains Under Investigation

The St. Croix County Emergency Communication Center received a call at about 6:53 p.m. on  Thursday, July 3, 2025, reporting a crash, with injuries, at the intersection of County Trunk Highway (CTH) T and County Trunk Highway G, in Erin Prairie Township.  Deputies arrived on scene and located a two vehicle crash. Owen Park Project Pushed Back

Renovations to the Owen Park playground project scheduled for this summer, is being pushed back.  The City of Eau Claire says the project has gotten community support for a larger replacement.  Private fundraising campaigns for the playground project are asking for a bigger, more accessible playground.  Now that the playground expansion is pushed back, renovations to the Donald “Sarge” Boyd Bandshell in Owen Park are being moved up to 2027.

$2 Million Dollar Ticket Sold in Appleton

A two-million-dollar Powerball ticket was sold in Appleton.  Wisconsin Lottery says the ticket was sold at Festival Foods in Van Roy Road and won during the Saturday drawing.  It matched five numbers, but not the Powerball number.  Two other winning Powerball tickets sold earlier this year at Wisconsin Festival Foods locations were worth one-million-dollars each.

Stressed Out?

Madison is one of the least stressed cities in the nation, while Milwaukee is one of the most-stressed.  A new report by WalletHub compares cities based on metrics like the average number of hours and divorce rates.  Madison ranks 17th least stressed US city.  Milwaukee is on the opposite end of the list, ranking 19th most stressed.  The most stressed cities are Detroit and Cleveland.
