The final SkillsUSA Wisconsinregional competition in 2025 will be held on Thurs. Feb. 27 and Fri. Feb. 28, with the majority of the competitions being conducted at the University of Wisconsin – Stout, 712 South Broadway Street in Menomonie, WI. More than 335 students from the following schools will compete: The competitions run from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Feb. 27 and from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Feb. 28. Judging will be from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30

Wisconsin’s spring primary election is today. Jill Underly, Brittany Kinser, and Jeff Wright are all vying for the position of State Superintendent of Public Instruction in one of the most competitive contests in the state. Elections for court judges, local Common Councils and many school referendums are also on the ballots. Aspirus Health will receive final approval from the Chippewa Falls City Council to build a new hospital in the southeast area of the city. Last week the Plan Commission approved the conditional use permit, and the council will meet tonight to work on the developer’s agreement. The hospital will offer both emergency care and clinic-based primary care services. They hope to break ground this spring.

Darrell Brooks, the man who killed six people in the Waukesha Christmas parade attack is firing his lawyer. Like he did before during his month-long criminal trial, Brooks wishes to represent himself going forward. In paperwork that was filed last Friday, Brooks court-appointed attorney says Brooks wants him to withdraw from his appeal case.  

The La Crosse School district announced its new climate action plan Monday night. The district says the effort is intended to reduce environmental effects, provide healthier learning environments, and create a stronger, more resilient future for the community and kids. Short-term targets for 2030 and long-term targets for 2050 are outlined in the Climate Action Plan to reduce energy consumption, switch to renewable energy, cut waste, and include sustainability into the classroom.

Before he could find out he was chosen for the Packers Fan Hall of Fame, John Brosig passed away. His son Max submitted the paperwork for his dad who was the 27th member inducted into the Fan Hall Of Fame. Max accepted the nomination Monday afternoon, while holding a photo of his father. The city of Stevens Point is looking into renovating Goerke Park but it wants the community to weigh in.  Mayor Mike Wiza says meetings will be held in the next few months for people to share ideas on what they want to see at the park.  The next community input meeting will be held next month.

The Chippewa County District Attorney’s Office has determined that the actions of law enforcement  officers on December 21, 2024, in the area of County Highway K and 50th Avenue, Town of Lafayette,  Chippewa County, Wisconsin, were reasonable acts of self-defense and defense of others.   Law Regarding Self-Defense and Defense of Others  Wisconsin law allows all persons, including law enforcement officers, to use deadly force in an act of  self-defense or defense of others. Madison is only beat out by Austin, Texas, at number one. Raleigh, North Carolina, Boise [[ BOY-see ]], Idaho, and Atlanta, Georgia, round out the top five.
