Police Look For Public’s Help in School Vandalization Case

Local Call for Blood Donation

There is a desperate need for blood in Chippewa County.  The county’s health department yesterday said The Red Cross is looking to fill its blood bank.  The Red Cross is sending blood to Florida to help with the hurricane relief effort.  Here in the Chippewa Valley that means they are looking for people with Type O blood.  There is a blood drive tomorrow at the county courthouse.

WI DHS Launches Website to Track Monkeypox Cases

Wisconsin’s public health managers have a new website to track monkeypox cases in the state.  The Department of Health Services launched the new site yesterday.  Wisconsin saw its monkeypox cases peak back in early August, since then cases have fallen to just two last week.  In all, Wisconsin has seen 75 monkeypox cases.

WI Governor’s Race Most Expensive in Nation

 A new report shows Wisconsin’s governor election is the most expensive in the U.S.  This month’s campaign finance report shows Governor Tony Evers raised over four-and-a-half-million dollars between July 26th and August 31st.  Republican challenger Tim Michels raised over five-point-four-million dollars, five-million of which he contributed himself.  AdImpact Politics says the two have spent a combined 55-million dollars on their campaigns.

Madison Unemployment Rates Among Lowest in The Union

Madison has one of the lowest unemployment rates in the country.  Out of the 180 largest cities in the U.S., WalletHub says Madison’s unemployment rate is the 16th-lowest at two-point-four percent.  WalletHub says Madison’s unemployment rate went down nearly a tenth-of-a-percent from July to August.

Bond Set in Case of Bar Owner Accused of Arson

It’s a 350-thousand-dollar bond for the man accused of burning down his own bar in Lyndon Station.  A judge yesterday set Heath Fjorden’s bond.  Prosecutors say he poured gasoline into the basement of Beagle Bar back on September 1st, then lit a match.  The fire and explosion damaged the bar and burned Fjordsen.  He was hospitalized because of his burns.  He’s due back in court next month.

WI A.G. Seeks Boost in Agency Budget

Wisconsin’s attorney general is among those asking for more money in the next state budget.  A-G Josh Kaul yesterday asked the governor for nearly a half-billion dollars for his agency.  Kaul says he wants to use the money, including an extra 175 million-dollars in new money, to hire more people for the state’s crime lab and open a 24 hour hotline for hate crimes in the state.  Most other state agencies are also asking for more money in the state

Commission Created to Handle Opioid Settlement
