WI Hospitalizations Creep Up

Wisconsin is ending the week with a few more people in the hospital with the coronavirus. The state’s Hospital Association yesterday said there are 416 people in the hospital with the virus, including 58 in the ICU. Happiness Has a Price Tag

A new survey says happiness in Wisconsin comes with a six-figure price tag. The survey from GoBankingRates.com says people in the state need to earn at least 101 thousand-dollars a-year to be happy. The survey says that much money will allow people to live ‘comfortably.’ The national price tag is 105 thousand-dollars. Republican Race Heats Up

The Republican race for governor in Wisconsin is getting a bit rougher. Rebecca Kleefisch this week unveiled her first negative campaign commercial where she accuses Tim Michels of wanting to raise the gas tax. Kleefisch is basing the ad on Michels association with groups that have pressed to raise the gas tax in the past. Packers Planning Road Trip

The Packers are bringing the team to the fans next week. Green Bay announced its Road Trip where former players will travel across the state and meet fans is set for next Wednesday through Sunday. Packers President and CEO Mark Murphy will be with alumni Tramon Williams, James Starks, Mike Neal, Tony Moll, Jason Spitz, and Scott Wells on the trip. They will stop in New London, Waupaca, Wausau, Thorp, Hudson, Prescott, La Crosse, Onalaska, Wisconsin Rapids and Stevens Point.

Dancing Grannies To Return to Waukesha

The Dancing Grannies will dance in the Waukesha Christmas Parade this year. The group made the announcement yesterday. It comes after three members of the Dancing Grannies were killed in last year’s parade massacre. One of the husbands of one of the members also died. Dancing Granny members say it is important to go back to Waukesha and to perform in the parade once again.

Ruling Keeps Original Name on Legal Documents For Registered Sex Offender

A Wisconsin transgender woman is not being allowed to change her name because she’s a registered sex offender.  The Supreme Court ruled today the woman can still use her preferred name of “Ella” but has to keep her birth name on all legal documents.  Dissenting judges say her First Amendment rights are being violated by not allowing the name change.  The 22-year-old was ordered to register as sex offender due to the 2016 sexual assault of an autistic teen boy.

Grants Headed to WI Cities For Coastal Management

Kewaunee County is getting four grants from the Wisconsin Coastal Management Program.  Governor Tony Evers details the grants today which include 30-thousand dollars to test 600 wells.  The city of Algoma will get 30-thousand dollars for the Olson Park Project while Baylake Regional Planning Commission is getting 20-thousand for technical assistance to local governments.  There’s also a 16-thousand-dollar grant to the state Historical Society looking at lumber pier documentation and research.

Senator Bernier: Secretary Of State Has To Send Constitution Convention Docs

Wisconsin Secretary of State Doug La Follette is being criticized for not sending constitutional convention documents to Congress and other states.  Republican Senator Kathleen Bernier sent a letter to the Democrat last month threatening legal action if he didn’t confirm the papers were mailed out.  The legislature passed a resolution in late January saying more constitutional amendments are needed to be added to constrain the federal government.
