Man Found Guilty in Dunn Co. Robbery

A Dunn County jury has convicted Andrew Horner of armed robbery with threat of force and carrying a concealed weapon after a three-day trial. Horner was found guilty of a May robbery at a Circle C gas station, where he threatened to kill the clerk with a machete-style knife. Police released surveillance footage, leading to tips from the public that identified Horner as the suspect. He faces over 40 years in prison and will be sentenced on February 7th, 2025.

Mental Evaluation Ordered in Pornography Case

A Pierce County jury determined Thursday that Loren Rawlings was not guilty by reason of insanity after facing charges of possessing child pornography. Rawlings had previously pleaded no contest to two counts and claimed a mental disease or defect. Police discovered nearly 500 illegal images during a search of his home. He will now undergo a psychiatric evaluation, with a future hearing set to decide on possible commitment and its duration.

Multiple Injuries in Seymour Cray Crash

Three people were seriously injured in a crash involving a semi-truck and a van on Thursday. Police say the van was heading south on Seymour Cray Boulevard and attempted a left turn onto East Park Avenue when it was struck by a northbound semi. The three injured occupants of the van were taken to the hospital, while the semi driver was unharmed. WI Sees Bump in Vaccinations

State health officials are reporting vaccination numbers that are a little bit higher than they were last year.  Thomas Haupt with the Department of Health Services says 25-point-eight percent of Wisconsin residents have gotten their flu vaccine this season, as compared with 25-point-four percent by this time in 2023.  COVID vaccines are also up by one-tenth of a percentage point this year, at 12-point-four percent, according to Haupt.

Cold Case Suspect in Court

A man accused of murdering a woman in Western Wisconsin 50 years ago is in court today. Jon Miller is accused of killing Mary Schalis while she was hitchhiking from Minneapolis to Chicago. Prosecutors say she rejected him when he made sexual advances before he murdered her and left her body in rural Dunn County. He’s being held on a million-dollar bond and will be in court again early next month.

WI Man Believed to Have Faked His Death

Law enforcement is now in contact with a man they believe tried to fake his death. The Green Lake County Sheriff’s Office says the sheriff has had video and phone calls with Ryan Borgwardt. Sheriff Mark Podoll says he initially thought the father and husband of three died while kayaking, but started to think he faked his death and left the country during an investigation earlier this month. Donation Options Open to Hunters

Deer hunters will be able to donate their harvest to help feed people in need when the season starts this weekend.  The Department of Natural Resources is once again offering its Deer Donation Program.  Donated deer will be made into venison for food pantries.  Almost 100-thousand deer have been donated since the program began in 2000.  More details about how to donate are on the DNR’s website with AN EASY CLICK HERE.
