Horse Riding Accident Sends Woman to Hospital

A 20-year old woman is in serious condition after getting thrown from a horse in Dodge County.  The incident happened Friday evening at a farm in Lowell.  The injured woman was airlifted to UW Hospital in serious condition after her mother found her lying in a field.  There is no word yet on an update of the victim’s condition.

Voting Equipment Testing Underway

Voting equipment testing is underway around Wisconsin.  The Wisconsin Elections Commission says the public can weigh-in on the use of the electronic equipment which will be in place for the August 9th primaries.  Public testing is by law and must take place at least ten-days before each election in which the devices will be in use.

WI Treasurer Drops Out of Race

Yet another Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate in Wisconsin drops out of the race.  Today Wisconsin Treasurer Sarah Godlewski announced the end of her campaign and endorsed Lieutenant Governor Mandela Barnes in the race.  Godlewski is the the third Democratic senate candidate to drop out this week, making Barnes the only well-known candidate left in the race.

WI Gas Prices Continue Downward Trend

Wisconsin gas prices continue to drop further below four dollars a gallon heading into the weekend.  According to Triple-A, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded in Wisconsin is three dollars and 94 cents, down two cents overnight and down nearly 20 cents from this time last week.  In Madison the average is three-83 a gallon, down 13 cents from last week.

Former Coach Faces Possible Stalking Charges

 A now-former swim coach at a suburban Indianapolis high school is looking at stalking charges in Wisconsin for traveling there to meet a woman who he follows online. Investigators say 45-year-old Matthew Papachronis paid a child five dollars to deliver a note to the young woman as she was sitting at her boyfriend’s baseball game in Plover, Wisconsin. She immediately called the police. Papachronis apparently told the woman he followed her to her home, and was stalking her for a few days. The

Civil Lawsuit Filed in WI Officer Involved Shooting

There is another lawsuit involving a former Wauwatosa police officer for one of his officer-involved shootings. The family of Alvin Cole yesterday filed a federal civil rights lawsuit against officer Joseph Mensah for shooting and killing Cole in February of 2020. Investigators cleared Mensah in the shooting, they say Cole shot at Mensah before he shot and killed him during a foot chase. The lawsuit calls Mensah ‘one of the deadliest police officers in American history,’ and says race was

Quarantine Rules Shift on Campus

Students who test positive for the coronavirus at UW-Madison this year will be able to stay in their dorm rooms. The school yesterday said it is changing its quarantine policy for the upcoming school year. Last year the university moved positive students to special quarantine dorms, but that proved difficult because of the large number of positive students and the small number of quarantine rooms. Man Arrested After Suspicious Fire, Body Discovered

There is more to that suspicious fire in Chippewa Falls. Police yesterday announced the arrest of 58-year-old Scott Vaningan for Wednesday’s fire at a home just north of downtown Chippewa Falls. Police are not identifying the victim in the case, or saying how they died. Police do say Vannigan knew the victim. Firefighters called the fire suspicious from the get-go. The cause of that fire remains under investigation.

Man Asks Judge to Change Guilty Plea

The man who admitted to killing his sister and her husband in Fall Creek back in 2017 wants a new plea deal. Wayne Price on Wednesday asked an Eau Claire County judge for a chance to change his guilty plea. He’s serving nearly a 30 year sentence in the case. Price says his lawyers didn’t do their job, and didn’t fully inform him of his options in his first trial.
