Towns and cities across Wisconsin are getting a bit more help to clean-up after the latest round of severe weather. Governor Tony Evers yesterday declared a state of emergency after a line of thunderstorms cut across the state on Saturday. Thousands of people were left without power, and the storms knocked down trees and knocked over a few barns. The state of emergency allows the Wisconsin National Guard to assist local communities, it’s also the first step toward requesting federal money to help pay for the storm clean-up.
In terms of some details from the storms, we do know a person is hurt after their mobile home was hit by a falling tree in Eau Claire. The Eau Claire County Sheriff’s Office says the tree fell at the Country Jam USA festival on Saturday and the victim was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Governor Tony Evers has issued a state of emergency because of damage caused by the storms.
Folks in North Bend are lucky both of the weekend tornadoes missed the town. The National Weather Service yesterday confirmed that two tornadoes, one in Jackson County and one in Trempealeau County, touched down Saturday. Neither did any real damage, and no one was injured. Forecasters say both tornadoes had top wind speeds of no more than 85 miles-per-hour.
