Governor Tony Evers says the state’s economic success is dependent on workforce diversity.
Speaking at the Madison Region Economic Development & Diversity Summit on Friday, Evers warned that if the state doesn’t proactively embrace diversity, economic development will come to a halt. Evers said the state has some of the nation’s largest racial gaps in income, education and criminal justice outcomes. But, he said hosting the Democratic National Convention in Milwaukee can help change the state’s reputation.
A spokeswoman for Democratic Governor Tony Evers is slamming legislative leaders for being sexist. Evers spokeswoman Melissa Baldauff said Republicans Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald and Speaker Robin Vos are “clearly uncomfortable or simply unwilling to work with a leadership team made up entirely of women.” Her comment comes after Fitzgerald said there’s no person from the Evers administration that reaches out to them on a regular basis.
The Evers administration claims they have told GOP leadership to work with Evers chief of staff Maggie Gau, but they haven’t done so.
