In 1911, Proctor and Gamble Company introduced Crisco shortening.

In 1914, the Panama Canal opened for traffic.

In 1939, MGM’s “The Wizard of Oz” opened at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Hollywood.

In 1948, CBS Television presented the first nightly news broadcast. Douglas Edwards was the anchorman.

In 1969, The Woodstock Music and Arts Fair opened in upstate New York.

In 2023, a Montana judge ruled in favor of young activists in the Held v. Montana case. The case ruled the state of Montana must consider climate change before deciding whether to approve or renew fossil fuel projects.

In 2024, the death toll in Gaza from the Israel-Gaza War reached at least 40-thousand.

In 2025, Russian President Vladimir Putin met with a western head of state for the first time since his country’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine, hosted by U.S. President Donald Trump at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska; meeting to discuss framework for a peace process adjourns earlier than anticipated and no agreements are announced.

In 2025, the first-ever World Humanoid Robot Games began in Beijing, China, with over 500 androids from 16 countries competing in various events such as football, martial arts, and dance.
