The Eau Claire Fire Department was dispatched to a reported residential structure fire at 2842 Kohlhepp Road on Eau Claire’s west side.
Upon arrival, crews found smoke showing from a single-family split-level residence. Firefighters rapidly deployed attack hose lines to begin fire suppression operations while simultaneously conducting primary searches for occupants in zero-visibility conditions.The fire was brought under control quickly.
During search operations, firefighters located two cats inside the residence and safely removed them from the home. No occupants were found inside. The homeowners were away from the residence at the time of the incident and were alerted through their home monitoring system that alarms had activated.
Firefighters discovered that the fire had extended into the attic space, requiring extensive overhaul operations to locate and extinguish hidden pockets of fire. The Eau Claire Fire Department Fire Inspector responded to the scene and assumed responsibility for the cause and origin investigation.
Crews remained on scene following extinguishment efforts to assist the homeowners and ensure the structure was safe.The Eau Claire Fire Department was assisted on scene by Xcel Energy, the Eau Claire Police Department, and the Eau Claire Communications Center.
No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported.
