The Eau Claire Fire Department responded to a structure fire Monday night at 2929 Northland Drive on the city’s north side.
Crews were dispatched just before 7:30 p.m. and arrived to find black smoke coming from the front of a residential duplex. Firefighters quickly deployed hose lines and were able to contain and extinguish the fire, which was determined to have started in the kitchen.

All occupants were out of the building when crews arrived. No injuries were reported, however one pet cat was found deceased inside the home.
Moderate fire and smoke damage was reported throughout the first floor. Damage is estimated at 60-thousand dollars.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by an Eau Claire Fire Department inspector. Residents are being relocated while damage assessment and cleanup continue.
