A new bill addressing school opioid overdose prevention is being introduced.
Senator Jeff Smith and Representative Jodi Emersen introduced LRB-6116 after opioids became the “leading cause of death among Wisconsin-school aged children.” Most Wisconsin schools are not required to have “opioid-antagonists,” such as Narcan, leaving school staff without the tools to respond effectively during an emergency. The legislation would provide funds to reimburse the costs associated with supplying these materials in every school across Wisconsin.
