Hospitals and doctors would do most of the work under a new proposal from Wisconsin’s attorney general to set standards for DNA rape kits.
A-G Josh Kaul yesterday introduced a plan that he says will create one standard for the entire state. Kaul’s plan would have doctors or hospitals collect a DNA kit. They would then either send the sample to police, or to the state’s crime lab if the victim doesn’t want to file a complaint. Kaul is trying to work his way through six thousand untested DNA kits that sat on shelves across the state for year.
