Local leaders were part of an event that focused on school safety. Below is Chippewa County Sheriff Travis Hakes recap of the conference:

Members of the Chippewa County School Threat Assessment Coalition (STAC) attended an event this week; that was focused on school safety. The event was the first time experts Dr. Dewey Cornell, Dr. Maria Randazzo, John Van Dreal, and Dr. Kelly Morris came together to discuss threat assessments, and school safety. The event was attended by professionals from various parts of the United States and Canada. The Chippewa County STAC was the only group from Wisconsin in attendance.
The three-day event was hosted at the Beaverton School District in Oregon. Chippewa County STAC members that attended were:
Manda Young – Chippewa County Department of Human Services
Kelly Berdan – Chippewa County Department of Human Services
Joe Nelson – Chippewa Falls School District
Travis Hakes – Chippewa County Sheriff
During the summit participants discussed school safety, with a focus on Behavioral Threat Assessment Management (BTAM) and digital threat assessment. Professionals from their respective areas discussed the resources available to teams.
The summit was focused on fostering the best collaborative teams to strengthen school district safety, as well as supporting the students and faculty of our school districts. Chippewa County STAC members will be bringing the information they learned back to Chippewa County to share with every school in Chippewa County.
Together, we will strengthen safety not only in our schools, but also our communities.
