State health leaders will continue advising that all newborns receive the hepatitis B vaccine within 24 hours of birth.
This follows the CDC’s advisory committee change, which suggests the birth dose only for babies whose mothers test positive or were untested. The state’s Department of Health Services says its guidance is based on decades of evidence and endorsement from the American Academy of Pediatrics. Officials say there is no new evidence justifying changes to the longstanding recommendation.
