Families Wait, Local Food Pantries Prepare

State officials say it could take weeks for federal food assistance to reach local families. 

More than 700-thousand Wisconsinites who receive benefits through the federally-funded FoodShare program have been impacted by the ongoing government shut down.  A recent court order has directed the Trump administration to pay at least partial SNAP benefits despite the administration previously stating they did not have the funds to do so.  Federal officials say they will pay half of the benefits due to recipients in November though it will take time now for those benefits to reach qualified individuals.
