The Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation is looking into an officer involved death in Fort Atkinson.
Officers with the Fort Atkinson Police Department responded to the 600 block of Washington Street for a report of shots fired on Sunday at 5 p.m. leading law enforcement to surround the residence. During the encounter, an officer shot a person, who was flown to a hospital in Madison, where they were later pronounced dead. Law enforcement said a rifle was recovered from the scene and no officers were hurt. Fort Atkinson PD says the officer was wearing a body camera during the exchange of gunfire and that the officer id placed on administrative leave, per the agencies policies.
