Crews Respond to State St. Fire

Friday, September 12th, at approximately 1727 hrs. the Eau Claire Fire Department responded to 1310 State St for a report of a structure fire.

Upon arrival there was fire and smoke coming from the roof of a 9-unit apartment building. Eau Claire Fire Department upgraded the fire response to a second alarm. There were multiple areas of fire throughout the building on three floors as well as roof involvement. Fire crews made an aggressive interior attack on the second and third floors. Fire crews performed a search of the structure to assure that no occupants remained in the building. When conditions deteriorated and signs of imminent roof collapse were noted, fire crews evacuated the building and switched to exterior defensive operations, utilizing two aerial trucks and several hoselines.

The fire was extinguished and marked under control at 2238 hrs. Fire crews remain on the scene to extinguish any potential hot spots. The fire is currently under investigation. Fire crews rescued one cat. Three firefighters were injured, and two were transported by Eau Claire Fire Department ambulances to Mayo Hospital. The fire department was assisted by the Eau Claire Communications Center, Eau Claire Police Department, Xcel Energy, Township Fire Department, Altoona Fire Department, the City of Eau Claire Streets Department, and Red Cross.
