Western Wisconsin Congressman Derrick Van Orden is encouraging Governor Tony Evers to quickly sign the state’s budget.
In a letter to Evers sent on Wednesday, Van Orden said that timely enactment is especially critical this year due to the proposed increase in the state provider tax, which must be put into effect before the anticipated signing of President Trump’s One, Big, Beautiful Bill. Democratic opponents say the letter is an admission by the Republican congressman that the tax and spending bill being considered now by the House would pull funding from Wisconsin’s rural hospitals and cost Wisconsinites their health care coverage.
