Juneteenth is being recognized around the country and locally today.

Juneteenth is the annual day commemorating the end of slavery in the U.S. It marks June 19th, 1865 when Major General Gorden Granger and his two-thousand Union troops arrived in Galveston Bay, Texas and proclaimed that more than 250-thousand enslaved Black people in Texas were free. Slavery was officially abolished in the U.S. in December 1865.

Uniting Bridges of Eau Claire is hosting its 25th annual Juneteenth Day Commemoration at the Pine Pavilion in Carson Park this evening with food, music, children’s activities and more. CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFORMATION.
