There are more details are about a Milwaukee apartment building fire that killed five on Mother’s Day.
Milwaukee Fire Chief Aaron Lipskisays fire crews responded to the building near 27th and Highland within three minutes of the first 911 call on Sunday morning. Firefighters used ladders to rescue almost 40 people, and guided dozens through thick smoke. Six people are still in the hospital. Chief Lipski says the now-uninhabitable building, built in 1968, did not have a sprinkler system but did have smoke alarms. Local and state agencies are working together to determine what caused the fire.
An intentional act has not been ruled out.
