The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is issuing a red flag warning for 21 northern counties.
Red flag warnings are issued when weather conditions like hot temperatures, low humidity, and gusty winds combine to create a higher fire risk. Campfires, fireplace ashes, smoking, and outdoor grills can throw sparks, leading to fires that can spread quickly. Central Wisconsin is in high fire risk. Far western, south-western, and east-central Wisconsin are in high fire risk, and south-eastern Wisconsin is at moderate fire risk.
