The Wisconsin Supreme Court is considering a lawsuit from UW Health nurses seeking to unionize, more than a decade after Act 10 restricted collective bargaining for public employees.
The nurses argue UW Health is required to recognize their union under private-sector labor laws, though Act 10 removed references to the hospital from those statutes. A ruling in their favor could open the door for unionization and weaken the effects of Act 10. Meanwhile, a broader challenge to the law is moving through the courts, with a recent lower court ruling against it currently on hold pending appeal.
