Recent Funding Cuts Could Affect Plans for Addiction Treatment Center

Lutheran Social Services is reconsidering purchasing an addiction treatment center that closed in 2024 after the Department of Government Efficiency cut funding for refugee resettlement services.

LSS previously said it intended to buy L.E. Phillips LIbertas Center to provide resources for those battling addiction in the Chippewa Valley.  However, since the funding freeze, the president and CEO Hector Colon said their decision might change.  He said they  have to make sure they’re not putting themselves in a position that’s going to hurt the organization and people they serve.  If the DOGE continues to block federal funding for LLS, Colon said fundraising might be the next step.  The goal is to have three-million-dollars to purchase L.E. Libertas.
