On February 2, 2025, at approximately 4:07 am a Chippewa County Highway Department truck was performing winter maintenance on Hwy 29 Eastbound at Stanley when it was struck from behind by a 2017 Jeep Compass. As a result of injuries sustained in the crash the male driver passed away.
The driver of the Jeep Compass was pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash by the Chippewa County Coroner. The driver of the Highway Department truck was not injured. The crash remains under investigation by the Wisconsin State Patrol.
