Madison will have a new police chief in about a month.
Chief Shon Barnes yesterday said his last day will be February 1st. Barnes is leaving to become the new chief in Seattle. Barnes yesterday said Assistant Chief John Patterson be named interim chief. Madison’s mayor has said she wants to take some time to find Barnes’ replacement, though she’s not saying how long that will take. Barnes has been Madison’s chief since 2021.
