Vigil Honors Victims, Investigation Continues

A candlelight vigil was held last night in Madison, Wisconsin to remember the lives lost and pray for those injured in Monday’s shooting at a private K-12 school.  A teacher and a student at Abundant Life Christian School were killed, and it appears the shooter – a 15-year-old girl – died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The names are not being released and Madison’s mayor angrily told reporters it’s none of their business who died in Monday’s school shooting at the Abundant Life Christian School.  Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway lashed out at reporters at a news conference yesterday.  She said people asking questions about the shooting should show some ‘human decency and respect.’  Rhodes-Conway was angry after being questioned about the lack of answers about the incident.

When it comes to the continuing investigation, Madison’s police chief says it is among his top priorities to find the motive behind Monday’s deadly shooting at the Abundant Life School. But Chief Shon Barnes yesterday said he didn’t have anything new on the motive yet. He said it will likely be a combination of things that led 15-year-old Natalie ‘Samantha’ Rupnow to bring a gun to school, and open fire.

The chief once again declined to talk about the manifesto attributed to Rupnow that talks about killing people, and her hatred for all manner of others. Barnes did ask for anyone who knew Rupnow, either in-person or online, to please come forward and share with investigators what they know.
