On Tuesday, October 9, 2024, two Marshfield Utilities Lineworkers joined a caravan of 22 other Wisconsin Municipal Utilities departing from South Beloit, IL, to trek to Kissimmee, Florida. They will assist Kissimmee Utility Authority with power restoration after Hurricane Milton. Crews are expected to arrive in central Florida by mid-day Thursday.
Municipal Electric Utilities of Wisconsin (MEUW) has coordinated mutual aid from all Wisconsin crews. They will join crews from 16 states, including Iowa, Michigan, and Minnesota, committed to the mutual aid response. Organizers have said mutual aid responders should plan to be needed for up to two weeks.
If the storm continues its current forecast track, Hurricane Milton will impact some of the most populated public power communities in Florida. Mutual aid is at the heart of public power – it’s about neighbors helping neighbors, no matter the distance.
