The VP debate is in the books
JD Vance says issues about the election should be debated peacefully. During Tuesday’s debate hosted by CBS News, Vance said censorship is a much bigger threat to democracy than anything seen in the last four decades.
Tim Walz argued democracy is bigger than winning an election.
He said when the election is over, the candidates need to shake hands and try to do everything you can to help the other side be successful. Vance said “it’s rich” for Democrats to claim former President Trump is a threat to democracy when he peacefully handed over power on Inauguration Day in 2021.
In other political news that lands in the Dairyland, Former President Trump talked immigration and taxes during his stop in Waunakee yesterday. The former president made his first-ever visit to Dane County, to campaign in the state’s bluest area. Trump once again talked about illegal immigration, and once again pointed to the case out of Prairie du Chien where an illegal immigrant is accused of sexual assault. He also promised business tax cuts if he’s elected for a second term. Wisconsin Republican leaders say they chose to campaign in Dane County in an attempt to reach voters who may never have seen the former president before. After Waunakee, Trump campaigned in Milwaukee.
Closer to our area, Western Wisconsin’s congressman is accusing the president and vice president of putting on a show with their response to Hurricane Helene. Congressman Derrick Van Orden told a Milwaukee radio station yesterday that neither President Biden or Vice President Kamala Harris did anything about the devastation from Helene until the media called them out.
Showing you different sides so you can decide, President Biden told reporters on Monday that he spent hours on the phone over the weekend getting updates from the states where Helene did serious damage. Vice President Harris visited FEMA headquarters on Monday to deliver remarks. Biden is set to visit the areas in the coming days.
As we inch closer to November, we’re going to get the final snapshot of the presidential race in Wisconsin today.
The latest Marquette Law School Poll is due out later this afternoon. The last poll, from last month, gave Kamala Harris a 52-48 lead over former President Trump. That is her biggest lead in any Marquette Poll this year. At this point back in 2020, the Marquette Poll gave President Biden a five point lead over Trump, and Biden went on to win Wisconsin by less than one percent of the vote.
