On Wednesday August 14th a two-vehicle crash occurred on Hwy 53 in a construction zone south of Haugen.
Hwy 53 traffic was bidirectional in the northbound lanes at the time of the crash and there were delineator posts down the double-yellow centerline. Initial investigation and witness information indicated a minivan was passing other northbound vehicles in the wrong lane of traffic when it struck a southbound sedan towing a motorcycle trailer.
The operator of the southbound vehicle suffered fatal injuries. The operator of the minivan was flown by LifeLink to Eau Claire.
Traffic on Hwy 53 was detoured for approximately 3.5 hours. The crash remains under investigation by the Wisconsin State Patrol.
