As the Olympics continue, here’s peek at where the US is and what events are coming up today.
The U.S. men’s basketball team is going for their fifth straight gold medal today at the Paris Olympics. LeBron James and Team USA will square off with France for the gold. The U.S. advanced after knocking off Serbia on Thursday. James put up just the fourth triple-double in Olympics history, while Steph Curry poured in a game-high 36 points in the comeback win. France, led by Victor Wembanyama, is in search of its first-ever Olympic gold. Tipoff is at 2:30 p.m. our time.
The U.S. women’s national soccer team is going for gold. Team USA is aiming for its fifth Olympic gold medal when it takes on Brazil today in Paris. The United States won all three preliminary games to win Group B before taking down Japan in the quarterfinals. The U.S. picked up its second straight 1-0 victory after topping Germany in the semifinals. The match starts at 11 a.m. Eastern.
The U.S. captured the gold medal in the women’s 4 x 100-meter relay at the Paris Olympics on Friday. The team, led by She’carri Richardson and Gabby Thomas, finished ahead of Great Britain who grabbed the silver. Germany won the bronze. Meanwhile, the U.S. men’s 4 x 100-meter relay team was disqualified after botching their first handoff. The men haven’t made the podium in the event since 2004. Elsewhere, American Rai Benjamin captured the gold in the 400-meter hurdles.
Break dancing made its Olympics debut yesterday in Paris. The U.S. had two entries in the women’s competition but both failed to make out of the group stage. Japan went on to win the first-ever gold medal in the event. Lithuania won the silver medal and China took the bronze. The men’s break dancing event will take place today.
