This month, Lineworkers Jake Buss and Alex Kiraly from Eau Claire Energy Cooperative embarked on a journey to Kayenta, Arizona, where they participated in the Light Up Navajo V project. This initiative, a collaborative effort between the Navajo Tribal Utility Authority and the American Public Power Association, aims to bring electricity to the Navajo Nation.
This year, roughly 250 lineworkers from all over the country have traveled to the Navajo Nation and spent
countless hours connecting approximately 125 homes to the electric grid for the very first time.
Throughout their stay, Jake and Alex were struck by the resilience and resourcefulness of the Navajo people. Despite the significant challenges they face, the community’s strong sense of unity and cultural pride was evident. The appreciation from the community made every effort worthwhile. The experience reinforced the importance of their work and the far-reaching effects of bringing electricity to underserved communities.
Reflecting on their journey, they expressed immense gratitude for the opportunity to participate in the Light Up Navajo project. Kiraly stated, “This experience has been life-changing, not just for the people we helped but for us as well. It’s a powerful reminder of the impact we can have through our work.”
