Wisconsin’s governor is joining the lawsuit that seeks to declare a right to abortion in the state.
Governor Tony Evers yesterday said he and the state’s attorney general are supporting the case from Planned Parenthood that asks the liberal-majority Wisconsin Supreme Court to find a right to abortion in the state’s constitution. Evers says he promised voters that he would fight to restore the Roe decision, and says he is making good on that promise. The governor is already supporting the lawsuit from Planned Parenthood to strike down Wisconsin’s 1849 law that all-but bans abortions in the state. The state supreme court is also hearing that case, though arguments have not yet been scheduled.
