Lake Altoona now has an aqua thruster to try and fight blue green algae.
The Lake Altoona District Board says they wanted to try something to keep the lake open more this summer. Blue green algae is deadly for dogs, and can make people sick. The algae closed the lake a couple of times last year. Michele Skinner with the district board says they’re willing to give almost anything a chance. The lake board has installed a couple of the aqua thrusters, with the first one going-in at the edge of the dock. The lake board says it will be a bit before they know if they are working, blue green algae usually comes later in the summer.
