Dane County is spending nearly a million-dollars to turn over 300 acres of land in the Town of Christiana into a nature preserve.
The county on Friday announced a 900-thousand-dollar grant to help the Southern Wisconsin Bird Alliance buy the land for conservation. The land hasn’t been farmed in decades, and was already a home to a wide variety of birds and animals. In all, it’s going to cost over two-million-dollars to buy the land. The SWBA is using a one-and-a-half million-dollar Knowles Nelson Stewardship grant and the 900-thousand-dollars from Dane County to complete the sale.
