“WEATHER” WE LIKE IT OR NOT, WINTER CONTINUES

A significant flooding risk is being identified in the Eau Claire area.  The National Weather Service released flood outlook data for the Eau Claire area yesterday.  County Emergency Management says the Chippewa River in Eau Claire has about a 30 percent chance of exceeding flood stage.  A county-wide flood exercise will be held next week in preparation for a worst case event.

But, as we are still shoveling, hauling, and dealing with the white stuff, winter weather is causing damage to western Wisconsin farms.  Staff at Huntsinger Farm in Eau Claire arrived yesterday morning to find the roof of one of their barns caved in.  The farm manager says tractors and harvesting equipment in the barn were damaged in the collapse.  Eau Claire County’s UW-Extension says older barns are subject to more damage because they weren’t held to current building standards.
