On January 25, 2024, at approximately 11:30am, the Lake Hallie Police Department received a traffic complaint of a green SUV weaving all over the road and striking a curb as it entered Walmart. At approximately 11:35am, a Lake Hallie Police Officer learned the registered owner had revoked driving privileges and conducted a traffic stop with the SUV at the Kwik Trip, 2997 Commercial Blvd, Lake Hallie. While the officer was speaking with the driver, Tobias Bash (39) from Chippewa Falls, backed his SUV into the marked patrol squad and fled the scene.
The officer pursued the vehicle down northbound Highway 124 onto 40th Avenue then the vehicle made a circle through a neighborhood coming back onto 40th Avenue where the officers were able to get the vehicle stopped and took Bash into custody. Officers detected the odor of intoxicants coming from the driver’s breath, was unsteady on his feet and his speech was slow and lethargic. It was revealed that Bash had an alcohol restriction of no greater than 0.02 and an Ignition Interlock requirement (IID).
Bash voluntarily submitted to field sobriety testing and submitted to a preliminary breath test which yielded a result of .23. As a result, Bash was arrested for Knowingly fleeing an officer, Hit & Run – Attended or Occupied, Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated -6 th Offense, failure to install IID, and Operating while criminally revoked. Bash was transported to the hospital for a legal blood draw.
