Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers is not going to convince the Republicans who control the State Assembly to expand BadgerCare, so he says he’s going to go around them. The governor yesterday promised to make his case to the people. Evers says it will be a good deal for the state to add 80-thousand people to the government healthcare rolls. A new report says that’d actually cost Wisconsin taxpayers about 600-million-dollars.

yesterday would have tapped into state surplus funds to cut taxes for the
middle class. Evers called the measure fiscally unsound and lacking
bipartisan support. Republican lawmakers say Evers is being divisive for
including caps on state tax credits for large manufacturers in his budget
proposal.
Governor Evers’ proposed budget will prioritize local roads
and bridges over big highway projects. Evers and his pick for
transportation secretary Craig Thompson announced yesterday that funding local
roads and bridges and preserving state highways will be the focus of the new
transportation budget. Thompson also faced a public hearing before a
state Senate committee yesterday, gaining support from Republican committee
chairman Jerry Petrowski. Other Senate Republicans are more skeptical.
