The plan to change how Wisconsin draws its electoral maps is headed for a hearing at the Capitol later this morning.
An Assembly panel will hear from Fair Map advocates who don’t like the idea of a new state commission drawing Wisconsin’s political maps. Assembly Speaker Robin Vos is pushing the plan that would use an Iowa-style commission, as opposed to the legislature, to draw the maps for Congressional and statehouse seats.
Despite past support for the idea, Democrats at the Capitol say the commission is still too political. Many of the same Democrats would rather have the new liberal-majority Wisconsin Supreme Court decide the maps for the next election.
