A young University of Wisconsin-Madison student is in critical condition after police say someone brutally beat her early yesterday morning.
Officers found the woman just after 3:15 a.m. in the downtown area.
University of Wisconsin-Madison student Mercy Salzwedel is a new resident on the same block of the attack and says she feels frightened.
There is no word on her attacker, though the Madison Police chief does say they believe it was a stranger that attacked her. Patrols in the area are being stepped up as a result of the incident.
Assistant Chief Paige Valenta with the Madison Police Department says emphasizes people should walk in pairs when out late at night.
