WI Sees Shift in Medicaid Coverage, Acceptance

WI Sees Shift in Medicaid Coverage, Acceptance

A lot of people either missed or failed Wisconsin’s first Medicaid re-up in three years.

The state’s Department of Health Services yesterday said just 30-percent of the first round of people to re-apply for health insurance through the state this year kept their coverage. Almost 40-percent re-applied but were rejected. The others either didn’t apply, or are still being processed.

The end of the coronavirus emergency orders means people on Medicaid in Wisconsin must re-apply for coverage, and means that some people will lose coverage because the income guidelines are no longer as generous.

As many as 25-percent of people in Wisconsin, over one-and-a-half-million people, were enrolled in Medicaid during the coronavirus emergency according to the state.
