At 12 p.m. the Chippewa River gauge at Grand Avenue read just over 770 feet, which is approximately three feet below flood stage. While the river has dropped several feet since Saturday, recent and forecasted precipitation will cause the river level to rise, cresting again at just over 773 feet on Saturday,
April 22.
Two special events in the city, the Jeanne Richie Memorial Puddle Jump 5K Run/Walk, and the Amazing Eau Claire Clean-Up are planned for this weekend and City staff will be working with organizers to
ensure their events can proceed in the safest manner possible. City staff will continue to monitor the river levels and take additional action as necessary to ensure the safety of residents and visitors.
For the safety of residents, the following measures have been taken and closures remain in place.
- Recreational trail underpasses
o Water Street
o Lake Street
o Grand Avenue
o Madison Street
o Farwell Street
o Graham Avenue - Chippewa River Trail – behind UW-Eau Claire Fine Arts building
- Chippewa river Trail – behind Hobbs Ice Arena, including boat landing and parking area
- Riverview Park – boat launch, playground, and park areas
- Southwest Dog Park – dog park, boat launch, and parking areas
- Graham Riverside Parking Deck – lower level
- Power and trail lighting have been turned off:
o Recreational trail from Dewey St. to the south toward Phoenix Park
o Owen Park – bandshell and tennis courts
o Southwest Dog Park Boat Launch
