The room tax at La Crosse hotels could be going up to fund the new La Crosse Center project.
The entire convention center project is expected to cost about 42-million dollars which is causing Mayor Tim Kabat to consider raising the room tax from eight to 12 percent. Explore La Crosse says a 50 percent increase is too high because it could drive away tourism and conventions. If the increase is considered it will have to come by ordinance which will take months to create.
