Republicans in the Wisconsin Assembly are suggesting a new abortion law, but most everyone else at the Capitol is saying ‘No.’
A number of Republican lawmakers yesterday introduced legislation that would allow for abortions in cases of rape or incest. Wisconsin’s current, post-Roe law only allows for abortions in cases where a mother’s life is in danger. But the plan will not become law.
Governor Tony Evers and other Democrats say they will not agree to a law that doesn’t fully restore abortion access in the state. And the top Republican in the Wisconsin Senate says he doesn’t want to play politics with abortion, and said he will not call the legislation for a vote in his chamber.
