Wisconsin’s Democratic U.S. Senator isn’t happy that the federal government wants to allow nut milks to continue to call themselves ‘milk.’
Senator Tammy Baldwin yesterday sent a letter to the Food and Drug Administration over the agency’s milk alternative guidance. She said that America’s dairy farmers work hard to produce ‘second-to-none products,’ and she doesn’t want plant-based products to ‘get away with using their good name.’ Dairy farmers have been trying to get a federal law that defines milk and cheese as only coming from cows or other animals. The FDA’s new guidance would get away from that.
