The sheriff in Sauk County is looking for new information about the murder at Devil’s Lake State Park two years ago.
Investigators have never named a suspect in 24-year-old John Schmutzer’s death. The sheriff’s office says he was blindsided while hiking in the park in October of 2020. The sheriff yesterday said they’ve conducted hundreds of interviews, but don’t have a suspect to name. Investigators are asking anyone who may know anything about the case, or who may have seen something suspicious at the park to reach out.
