The latest plea for more state money for prosecutors and public defenders is coming from Milwaukee County court officials.
The county’s chief judge and district attorney spoke with city council members in the city yesterday. Chief Judge Mary Triggiano says there’s a 15 hundred case backlog right now. D.A. John Chisholm says they can’t find assistant prosecutors because of the workload and the pay scale. The State Bar of Wisconsin earlier this week said essentially the same thing. The State Bar is asking lawmakers to spend some of the state’s record surplus to help out.
