The small Wisconsin town of Gordon is reacting to Jayme Closs’ escape after she was held against her will for 88 days in a home in the community. Residents say they were shocked to learn the girl had been held within their community for the last three months. Her picture had been posted all over the town, but no one had a clue she was in their midst the whole time. Resident Jake Patterson is charged with killing Jayme’s parents, armed burglary, and kidnapping. Other charges may follow.
And the support continues. The city of Ladysmith is continuing to come together to support the Closs family. The tree of hope lit by the Ladysmith Lions Club in late December will continue to stand as a reminder of support for the family. A week and a half after the tree was lit, Jayme escaped her captor in Gordon and was soon reunited with her relatives.
