The man charged in the kidnapping of Jayme Closs and the murders of her parents is being held in a different facility. Jake Patterson was moved Monday from the Barron County Jail to a jail in Polk County. Jayme was missing for nearly three months before she escaped from Patterson’s home in Gordon, Wisconsin late last week. Patterson has admitted to investigators that he committed the murders and the kidnapping.
Barron County authorities say they knew deputies had passed a single vehicle on the highway while responding to a 911 call from Jayme Closs’ home, a vehicle that turned out to be Jake Patterson’s. Patterson admitted to using the car to go to the home to kill James and Diane Closs and kidnap 13-year-old Jayme. Authorities say they didn’t immediately know what had happened at the home, so had no evidence to pull over Patterson.
The grandfather of the man accused of kidnapping 13-year-old
Jayme Closs and murdering her parents describes his grandson as “quiet and
shy.” Jim Moyer says that Jake Patterson is nice and polite and
often avoided crowds. Moyer also said Patterson was more into computer
games than social interaction and that his family is “absolutely
heartbroken.”
The Barron community is still in shock as more details are
being released in the kidnapping case of Jayme Closs. Barron County Sheriff
Chris Fitzgerald says he expects the community will be able to recover
following the tragedy of Jayme’s kidnapping and the murders of her parents
James and Diane. Jayme escaped her captor late last week and has been
reunited with her family.
