Flying out of Madison is convenient and expensive, according to a new study.
The study by financial technology company SmartAsset found that the average fare to fly out of Dane County Regional Airport is one of the highest in the country. Dane County Regional’s average of 526 dollars is the same as the average for flights out of Washington Dulles International Airport. The study found only one other airport, Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International in Alabama, has an average fare of more than 500 dollars. Dane County Regional communications director Michael Riechers pointed out that airlines, which are tenants of the airport, determine fare prices.
